YOSHINOYA, famous for its Beef Bowl (Gyudon),
is a well-established food chain catering tasty and wholesome
meals with fast food convenience. Founded by Mr Eikichi Matsuda
in 1899, it is named after Mr Matsuda’s birthplace, Yoshino-Cho
in Osaka. The first Yoshinoya restaurant was located in the Nihonbashi
Fish Market in Chuoku, Tokyo. In 1946, Mizuho Matsuda, son of
Eikichi Matsuda, turned the business into a 24-hour restaurant
and rapidly gained wide spread popularity in Japan. In 1958, it
became a corporate company operating on a chain store system.
To date, there are 1263 outlets around the world, namely Japan,
USA, Hong Kong, China, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan
and Australia.
Other than its famous Beef Bowl (Gyudon), Yoshinoya also offers
selections of Teriyaki Chicken and Salmon, plus new additions
like the popular Karaage Chicken and Ebi (prawns), topped with
secret-recipe sauce on fluffy Japanese grain rice. These Japanese
rice meals, complete with freshly cooked mixed vegetable, make
a balanced meal and a nutritious alternative to the usual food
court or fast-food fare.
